There is more to arranging your bedroom than just placing your pieces of furniture wherever they fit. You need to plan out your layout to find the right bed placement in your room. However, the importance of your arrangement does not stop with the energy. Your furniture arrangement can also impact the style and mood of your bedroom. It is important to take the time to determine the right furniture placement, starting with your bed.
To help you get started on your bedroom layout, here are a few examples of the best way to position a bed in a bedroom.
Centered
If you are like many other people, you may want to place your bed in the center of the longest wall in your bedroom. After all, your bed is most likely the focal point of the room.
In addition to putting the spotlight on your cozy retreat, it also creates a sense of balance because there is enough space to place a nightstand on each side of the bed. You can also add a bit of style above the bed with a decorative headboard or wall art.
Off-Centered
It is not uncommon to place the bed off-centered if there is a fixed element, such as a window or door, limiting your options. If your bed has a decorative headboard, you may want to place it against the wall opposite the door. This way, your headboard is visible from the doorway.
The best part is you can try this off-centered bed placement in a room regardless of the size of your bedroom, as long as the wall is long enough for your bed.
Bed in Front of Window (Under the Window)
You may have been told that under the window is not the best way to position a bed in a bedroom. However, it may be the only option available because of fixed elements. Luckily, there are ways to make positioning your bed under the window work.
For example, you can opt for a low headboard and curtains that are hung high and wide. This way, you can close the curtains as needed, but otherwise, you are not blocking the view of the outdoors.
Bed Against The Wall
Another option is to place your bed against the wall because it creates more space for walking around the room. It is especially a great idea if you are investing in a daybed or sofa bed for a small bedroom layout.
A daybed against the wall can function as a sofa during the day, while a sofa bed against the wall can turn into a bed at night. Of course, you can also place a regular bed against the longest wall to create more floor space.
Diagonal Bed Placement
If you cannot place your bed on the wall across from the door, you may need to look into an alternative bed placement in a room. One example is a diagonal bed placement, but you do want to ensure you have enough space for this position.
As for your surrounding furniture, you want to place them where they can fit, such as a floor lamp in the corner behind the bed or the dresser inside the closet.
Same Wall as The Door
You may need to place your bed on the same wall as the door, especially if you cannot place it on the wall opposite the door because of fixed elements. This is actually good news if you are looking to keep your bed out of sight from the doorway. Plus, it can provide a nice view of the outdoors if there are windows on the wall opposite the door.
Bed as an Island in the Middle of Room
Finally, you can also use the bed in the middle of the room to create an island behind a storage or dressing area. It is ideal if you are placing the bed in the center of a large bedroom or even a studio apartment.
The lack of walls around your bed creates a seamless flow of air, light and energy, plus it is easier to get in and out of your bed. You can make your bed island feel more grounded with a headboard or patterned area rug.

And one of the best things about wood is that it accepts a variety of paints well, whether you opt for something that's acrylic or an oil-based formula. Painting wood is an easy way to change its look and give it some new personality, but it's not always clear what paint to use for different projects and applications. Here's what you need to know about the right paint to use for wood.
What's Your Project?
First, it's essential to figure out the nature of your project, meaning you'll need to determine not only what you're painting but also where it's located or going to be used. Are you painting shingles on the exterior of your home? Or are you painting an outdoor deck that'll see a lot of foot traffic? How about kitchen cabinets that people will touch often, or a bathroom shelf that'll be exposed to high humidity from the shower?
Knowing things like whether or not it's going to get wet, how often someone's going to use it or touch it and what overall effect or look you want to achieve are all essential for determining what paint you should use for the project. Wood accepts a very wide range of paints and stains, but each of those can have differing levels of durability and protection. Some paints are better than others in certain situations, and you'll need to know your particular situation before you make your choice.
Paint Types and Formulas
The great thing about wood is that, as long as you apply primer to it in most cases, any type of paint works well on it, depending on what function you need your project to serve. Generally speaking, paints to use on wood are water-based or oil-based. Acrylic and latex are the two most common types of water-based paints, while oil-based paints fall into two categories: synthetic or natural. Each of these is better than others for specific applications.
Latex paint is quick-drying, easy to clean and better for the environment than other types. It's also less likely to discolor over time. However, it's not the most durable choice, as it can scratch and chip easily. It's best for indoor wood items or surfaces that you won't touch or use very often, such as rarely used furniture, storage cabinet doors, stair spindles and picture frames. Latex paint is often the most affordable type.
Acrylic paint is ideal for home exteriors, although you can also use oil-based paint here. If the exterior is made up of different materials, such as stone and wood, you're better off choosing acrylic. Materials like stone and masonry need breathable paint to allow moisture and water vapor to pass through, and oil-based paint prevents this. Acrylic craft paints are also widely available and easy to use and clean up if you're doing a simple DIY craft project using wood.
Synthetic oil paint, which is also called alkyd, is the best choice for applications where you need a lot more durability. Think everyday furniture that'll get used and jostled often, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, interior trims like baseboards and door frames that'll get kicked and touched often, and flooring indoors and out. Oil-based paints are more rigid than flexible, water-based types so they're less likely to chip — even when people are walking on them — and they're also easier to wash clean because of this.
Natural oil paint, called linseed, is best for craft projects on which you want to create a warm, aged patina. It's typically much more expensive than the synthetic variety, which is why it's best for smaller projects.
Prepping for the Project
To help the paint adhere well and to ensure the finish looks its best when everything is dry, it's important to prep your wood to get it ready. If you're painting an exterior surface or item, give everything a thorough wash to make sure there isn't any dirt, dust, moss or algae, all of which can keep the paint from sticking to the surface. If you're painting wood deck furniture, a table or something else for the outdoors that people will touch frequently, it's a wise idea to sand it before painting to give the paint something smooth to adhere to. Splinters and cracks can also keep the finished product from looking its best, and they're uncomfortable to sit on. Let the surface or or item dry out fully before applying the paint, and give it a few days to dry and start curing before you use it. It's best to do outdoor wood-painting projects while the weather is nice.
If you're repainting an interior surface or furniture such as kitchen cabinetry or a dresser, take a look at the existing paint or finish. If the item's current paint isn't chipped, cracked or bubbling, you can usually paint right over it; just sand the wood areas briefly to give the surface more texture for the paint to stick to. If you don't need to remove cabinet paint, it's still a good idea to clean the doors with a heavy-duty solution like TSP to eliminate all traces of grease and grime. If you do need to remove a little bit of paint, such as a few chipped areas, you can sand them down. However, you may need to use paint stripper for items with paint that's very damaged. This is a product that softens the old paint so you can scrape and wipe it all off.
A word of caution here: If your cabinets or other painted home surfaces were last done in the 1970s or earlier, they may contain lead-based paint. If you use a testing kit and determine there's lead in your paint, call the National Lead Information Center or your local health department to find out how to proceed.

How We Decorated a Bedroom With Wolves
My granddaughter Lacey loves wolves, and she wanted to decorate her bedroom in a wolf theme. This article includes ideas for painting your room and how to use a wolf wall mural, birch-tree wall decals, a full moon, posters, bedding, and accessories to make the best wolf bedroom ever! Lacey slept on the sofa in the living room for a month while all of the painting and decorating was done. She didn't look at the room until it was finished, and boy was she surprised!
I'll show you a few of the ideas we used to make a fun bedroom for a 10-year-old girl, and how you can do it, too! All it takes is an idea and lots of shopping to find just the right decorations!
The wolf pen-and-ink drawing over the bed was bought from a local artist. The birch-tree decals and wolf blankets were ordered online.
Clear Out the Furniture and Paint the Walls
First, we had to do some preliminary work on the walls such as filling in cracks in the plaster and sanding. Plus, we gave the room a general clean up and moved out most of the furniture.
For the paint, Lacey chose a light gray, and it worked out beautifully with the other wall decorations. I was a little unsure about the gray, but the dark-blue curtains brighten it up. As you'll see in the photos, it's the perfect color for a night sky and full moon!
My Gray Paint Recommendation
We used BEHR paint from Home Depot. I can't say enough about how much we loved this paint. It goes on easy and doesn't drip or splatter. We used a primer first and then one coat of flat enamel paint. The flat enamel is a washable flat paint. For the woodwork, we used a primer and then semi-gloss enamel in Candlelight Ivory.
After the painting was done, then came the fun part: shopping and more shopping.
My daughter Vicky had a vision of how she wanted the room to look, and she did a great job! It took a lot of shopping for just the right things! She discovered that many wolf-themed items can be found online by visiting only one place: Amazon. But she also spent many hours looking in thrift shops, antique stores, craft shows, Lowe's, and K-Mart! She wanted to find unique things to make this room special!
This life-sized wolf is really a wall mural. See how big he is and how real it looks? I think it would be scary to have a wolf in your room, but Lacey thinks he keeps her safe.
A Wolf Wall Mural Can Be the Main Focus
This life-sized wolf will certainly draw attention to your room. It looks so real (or at least like it was painted directly on the wall)! But it's actually a peel-and-stick wall mural. We found it to be very easy to apply. Combine it with the birch-tree wall decals and a full moon for a beautiful scene. My granddaughter loves hers.
Birch-Tree Wall Decal Set
The birch trees are a pre-pasted wall mural set. We also found these to be very simple to apply. They can be easily removed later if needed, without ruining the wall.
We used them on one long wall and the adjacent short wall in Lacey's bedroom. Since this room has such high ceilings, the trees had to be pieced together, but you can't notice it at all. We did the piecing near the bottom rather than the top, so it's mostly behind the bed. It took more than one set for us, but how many sets you need depends on how large your room is and how many walls you want to put them on.

Add a Full Moon
Every wolf-themed room needs a full moon! We made our own, but if you don't feel that adventurous, you can buy one. Amazon has one that was recommended to us by friends, but we decided to make our own since the place we needed to put it is a little tricky. You can read how we did it below.
How to Make Your Own Glow-in-the-Dark Full Moon
Vicky made her own glow-in-the-dark full moon. Here's how: There is a chimney hole high on one wall (where a stovepipe originally went in) with a tin cover over it. Vicky used some originality to turn that cover into a full moon! She cut out a piece of foam core board the size of a dinner plate, painted it in a pale yellow glow-in-the-dark paint, and then glued it to the stove cover.
If you don't have a stove cover, just hang it on the wall. A wolf room really needs a full moon, and Lacey loved it!
Use wolf blankets to decorate your room.
It's Easy to Decorate With Bedding
An easy way to decorate is with wolf-themed bedding, including quilts, comforters, blankets, and sheets. You could also use a throw or quilt as a wall hanging or over a chair.
Vicky used blankets with a howling wolf design on the bed rather than a comforter or bedspread. She used dark-blue and gray sheets and pillowcases.

Put Up Posters
Posters are an inexpensive way to decorate your room, and there are so many choices that you are sure to find one you love. You can find a large selection at most discount stores or online.
All Posters is one of my favorite places to find art of any subject. We chose two beautiful wolf posters for Lacey's room and put them in frames from Wal-Mart. It was so easy!
We bought this cool desk at a used furniture store, and added wolf bookends, figurines, and other accessories that we found at various places.
Use Accessories to Decorate
Vicky picked up unique wolf items to make Lacey's room special. We had fun shopping in all of the local used furniture stores to find just the right desk. We added the wolf-themed lamp, decorative plate, bookends, pencil holder, various trinkets, and figurines as decorations on her desk. Simple things can be used to decorate and carry out the theme of your room. Note the wolf calendar and light-switch plate in the photo below.
The wolf plate set on the hutch was bought at a local antique store. The wolf decals were ordered online. The blue bins are from a discount store.
Remodeling an Old Hutch for a Wolf-Themed Room
This was originally a dining room hutch, and Vicky painted it in the same paint as the woodwork. Next, she spray painted the hardware and added wolf decals on the drawers.
She added a bulletin board by removing the glass doors and shelves and gluing on rolled cork. She then used flat molding around the edges to hold in it place.
The blue vinyl baskets on the shelves make great storage for toys. Lacey's TV, DVD player, and DVD collection are kept on the shelves behind the doors.
The wolf plate set on top of the hutch was purchased at a local antique store, but you can also find them on Amazon. Lacey already had the stuffed animal and alarm clock sitting on the hutch. Artwork was done by Lacey.
Add a Reading Center
Lacey loves to read (mostly about wolves!) and already had the child-size recliner chair and books. We found the table at an antique store. Can you see the howling wolves in the lampshade?
A Little History
This house belonging to Vicky (my daughter), Scott (my son-in-law), Scottie (grandson) and Lacey (granddaughter) is a 100-year-old farmhouse with large rooms and high ceilings. It has the wide baseboard and still has the original glass doorknobs! However, it was in bad need of some tender loving care, so they are re-decorating it room by room.
Each room has a theme. So far, they have done the master bedroom in Romantic Cottage, Lacey's room in Wolves, Scottie's room in a '50s theme, and the living room is in a Route 66 theme. Since Vicky chose her favorite things for the master bedroom, Scott got to choose the theme for the living room. They used Route 66 tin signs, model cars, and other vintage items in this room. Meet Casey
Casey is Lacey's pet German Shepherd dog, the closest she could come to having a wolf! Casey loves to relax on the swing.

Lacey is adorable! The room reminds me of The Witch and the Wardrobe series, it just absolutely comes to life off the pages! The wolf next to Lacey looks 3-D. Well I've got a Wolf throw.. & Secretly the only reason I went to my H.S. is it was Wolves (the other schools mascots were lame) adding to my about me lens as I'd love to do this with a room.

I like the birch trees...but I don't think I would want to wake up in the middle of the night and see a life sized wolf staring at me. Does the dog get jealous of the wolf?

When i was ten i was half asleep, turned over in my bed, and saw a tall indian man just standing over me, just looking at me. He had a large headdress on, and it was wolf headdress. He also had a long staff that had wolf carvings on it. My sister that lived on a reservation, said that he was my gardian. I always wondered why i liked wolves.
